I am Rev. Dr. Matt TIttle, recently called minister of Central Unitarian Church in Paramus NJ, where I begin serving on August 1, 2010. Previously, I served the Bay Area Unitarian Universalist Church in Houston, TX for six years. While there, I blogged for the Houston Chronicle for three and a half years at Keep the Faith. I turned that blog over to Houston colleague, Rev. Ellen Cooper-Davis.
This is my new blogging platform. Welcome to The Indefinite Article. As an independent blog site, I have much more freedom than I did at the Houston Chronicle with regard to content and supplemental material. As such, I will grow and enhance this blog over time.
What will you find here? My thoughts about liberal religion, life, faith, and belief. Most importantly, this is a place for dialogue. I look forward to hearing from both my long-time readers along with new readers. The conversation is the point.
Why "The Indefinite Article?" This is the title I wanted for my original blog, but the Chronicle editors rejected it. It is about my approach to liberal religion, and has a story in my interpretation of John 14:6 in the Christian scriptures. That interpretation will be the subject of a future blog post.
Blessings,
Rev. Matt

Excellent blog title, Matt! I'm looking forward to reading more!

Love the title. It resonates. But should that be "An Indefinite Article"? :D

Susan, "the" paradox is quite intentional... ;-)

Ah, we meet again. Well, let's get to it - what do you have for us? I am really glad you are going to continue and now even in a more straight forward approach. Way cool!
Peace and welcome back...
John

Welcome back Rev. Matt! I look forward to reading your thoughts! RevEl (our family nick name for Rev. Ellen) is doing a wonderful job. I'm so happy to have two UU blogs in my life, I am beside myself! There are two of me!

Maybe I`ll be Captain Obvious, but... it's only few days to New Year last, so let's be happy!
Hoho3ho!)

Greetings!
I'm curious to note that neither you nor Reverend Ellen has commented on the long-awaited repeal of DADT. Somehow I've have thought you'd have been shouting it from the roof tops. I think this is something we ought to celebrate, particularly as we move into a new political session.
On a related note, how do politics on social issues in New Jersey stack up against those in Texas? I'm curious to know if Katie and I should consider moving out of the Lone Star State.
Inquisitively,

Hi JP,
I am quite literally overwhelmed settling into my new position here in New Jersey. I need to get back to blogging, but don't have the time at the moment. My take on DADT isn't to shout victory from the rooftops, but to help all of us be mindful of the next steps to ensure that glbt people can serve equally and successfully. Perhaps I'll get back to blogging in a few months...
Blessings,
Matt

Greetings!
I can appreciate being overwhelmed with change -- as I anticipate the changes in my life as I change careers again, I know I'll have a lot of adapting to do, and I respect what you're going through in establishing a new relationship with a new congregation. I wish you and your new congregation success in building a better corner of New Jersey.
In the meantime, I hope regular readers here will take time to talk about the steps going forward to implementing the DADT repeal and what we can do to make the transition easier. I hope you won't mind us taking time to talk.
Respectfully,
J. P. DeMeritt
